Job Description
GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION: To provide organ and piano music for worship services and other church functions including weddings and funerals.
TYPE OF POSITION: Part-Time
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provide organ and piano music in a professional manner for all worship services and all seasonal and special services.
2. Provide organ and piano music for weddings and funerals and be permitted to receive additional compensation from the parties involved. The use of the organ or piano by a guest musician may be done by special arrangement.
3. Facilitate the congregation to sing and worship through the excellent execution of hymns and liturgy.
4. Accommodate the musical talents and participation of members of the congregation through accompanying special musical offerings, including soloists, instrumentalists, and small ensembles in cooperation with the worship and music committee.
5. Assist Worship & Music Committee to arrange for organist or pianist when absent for church services and notify the pastor and worship and music committee in advance.
6. Assist the Worship and Music ministry to ensure there that organ and piano maintenance is completed by a qualified repair person as needed.
7. Assist the Pastor and the Worship and Music Committee in the selection with hymn selection.
8. Invest 5-10 hours per week.
9. Gain familiarity with the Evangelical Lutheran Worship book and show a willingness to learn.
ACCOUNTABILITY: The Organist is accountable to the Congregational Council, reports directly to the Pastor, and will receive guidance, support and counsel from the Worship and Music Committee.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION:
· High School graduate or equivalent
· Has or is in study as a musician
· Provide required criminal and child abuse clearances at the congregation’s expense.
SKILLS:
· Proven organizational skills
· Excellent interpersonal skills
