Join UPMC Northshore Neurology in Erie, PA as a full-time Advanced Practice Provider (APP). We welcome both Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP) and Physician Assistant (PA) candidates. As part of the UPMC Neurological Institute , you'll join a nationally recognized neuroscience program in an outpatient Neurology role, working side by side with a collaborative team of neurologists and fellow APPs to care for patients across a wide range of neurology subspecialties. With a predictable Monday-through-Friday schedule, no on-call, no weekends, and no hospital rounding, this position offers a strong work-life balance in a 100% outpatient clinic setting.

• Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

• Part of the UPMC Neurological Institute, a center of excellence that combines the expertise of skilled neurologists, neurosurgeons, researchers, and other neurological specialists to provide comprehensive patient care
\n
• Structured onboarding: APPs are paired with physicians and experienced APPs to work alongside, building familiarity with neurology and each subspecialty the practice sees
\n
• Team of 6 neurologists and 3 APPs, supported by 3 RNs and 4 medical assistants who work closely with providers
\n
• Deep subspecialty expertise: headache, movement disorders, epilepsy, memory, sleep, and multiple sclerosis (MS)
\n
• A leader in innovation — the first specialty at UPMC to pilot telemedicine-only physicians, with two neurologists practicing fully via telemedicine
\n

Advanced Practice Provider:

The Advanced Practice Provider (Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner) is a collaborative member of the care team who provides high-quality patient care through independent clinical judgment and physician collaboration. The APP manages patient care across the continuum, builds strong interdisciplinary relationships, and demonstrates professionalism, accountability, and emerging leadership within the healthcare team.

Responsibilities:

• Provide high-quality patient care by applying sound clinical judgment, effective communication, and evidence-based practice. Develop and implement individualized plans of care that support patient safety, quality outcomes, and satisfaction.
\n
• Collaborate with patients, families, and interdisciplinary care teams to deliver coordinated care and patient education. Actively seek feedback, guidance, and learning opportunities to continuously strengthen clinical skills and professional practice.
\n
• Contribute to a safe, respectful, and inclusive work environment by demonstrating professionalism, ethical awareness, accountability, and teamwork. Participate in quality improvement efforts, support colleagues, and engage in initiatives that enhance patient care and the clinical practice environment.

• Demonstrated ability to provide age-appropriate patient care

• Ability to assess patient data and deliver care per departmental policies

• Strong interpersonal, critical thinking, and clinical judgment skills with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

• Physical stamina and dexterity required for direct patient care.

Licensure, Education, Certifications, and Clearances

\n

\n
• Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP)\n
  \n
  • Completion of an approved Nurse Practitioner program required
  \n
  • BSN required; MSN preferred
  \n
  • Current Pennsylvania RN license and CRNP certification required
  \n
  • National certification and eligibility for licensure and CRNP certification by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing
  \n
\n

• Physician Assistant (PA)\n
  \n
  • Graduation from an ARC‑PA–accredited Physician Assistant program required
  \n
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree preferred
  \n
  • Current Pennsylvania PA license and NCCPA certification required
  \n
\n

• Required for All APP Candidates \n
  \n
  • Current CPR certification
  \n
  • Successful completion of required Pennsylvania clearances:\n
    \n
    • Act 33
    \n
    • Act 34
    \n
    • Act 73
    \n
  \n
\n

\n
• Senior-Level Requirements: To qualify for or maintain Senior Advanced Practice Provider status, candidates must meet the following:\n
  \n
  • Minimum of 3 years of APP experience or completion of a post‑graduate residency
  \n
  • Completion of national certification appropriate to discipline
  \n
  • Must maintain a Solid/Strong/Good performance rating or higher on annual evaluations
  \n
  • Completion of an OAPP‑approved professional contribution within one year of hire or promotion
  \n
  • Department Chair approval required for promotion
  \n
  • ACLS, ITLS, NALS, PALS, or other approved certification meeting AHA standards (including didactic and skills validation) within 30 days of hire
  \n
  • If practicing in an outpatient or other non-inpatient setting, APPs can use one of the certifications above or use a business unit approved certification which is relevant, and value added to the practice setting. 
  \n

This position is dependent upon successful attainment and maintenance of hospital privileges, if applicable to the Business Unit practice.
