Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Directional Drill Operator to join our team supporting fiber optic and telecom utility projects in Northern Virginia. The Drill Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently operating horizontal directional drilling (HDD) equipment to install underground utilities while minimizing disruptions and protecting existing infrastructure.


Key Responsibilities:

• Safely operate directional drilling equipment (e.g., Vermeer, Ditch Witch) to install fiber optic and telecom conduit.
• Follow bore plans and operator instructions provided by the Locator to maintain the correct bore path and depth.
• Read and interpret utility maps, plans, and blueprints.
• Perform daily equipment inspections, routine maintenance, and minor repairs as needed.
• Work closely with the Locator and crew to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and safety during drilling operations.
• Maintain compliance with OSHA regulations, company safety standards, and utility owner requirements.
• Assist with setup, cleanup, and restoration of job sites.
• Complete required job documentation, including bore logs and daily reports.
• Operate vacuum excavation equipment and other construction tools as needed.

• Experience: Minimum 2 years operating horizontal directional drills in telecom, fiber, or underground utilities.
• Technical Skills: Knowledge of HDD drilling techniques, drill head steering, mud mixing, and equipment troubleshooting.
• Licensing: Valid driver's license required; CDL Class A or B strongly preferred.
• Certifications (Preferred): OSHA 10/30, First Aid/CPR.
• Physical Requirements: Ability to lift 50 lbs, work outdoors in varying weather, and stand/walk for long periods.
• Soft Skills: Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
